Big Brown's Quarter Crack

This is not Big Brown's quarter crack!

This is a simular process that Big Brown will go through.

This is a very typical quarter crack.
A quarter crack is a split in the hoof wall that originates
in the coronet band and travels downward. A hoof wall is very
similar to our fingernail. The nail is insensitive, but the
tissue underneath is very sensitive. When a crack occurs in
the hoof wall, the tissue underneath becomes inflamed and very
tender.

This is a close up of the same crack. Holes have been drilled

for placement of stainless steel wire sutures. These wires
function as stitches to draw the crack back together
eliminating movement.

The now stabilized hoof wall will help speed up the healing

process. Notice how the cracked wall has been drawn together.

We are very excited Yasha shoes chose us to represent them and their revolutionary product!

Glue on version of Yasha Shoe worn by Big Brown

Big Brown, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner and undefeated 3 year old thoroughbred is currently wearing a glue-on version of the Yasha shoe.

Rick Dutrow, trainer of Big Brown has decided to use this shoe to prevent future hoof problems. Big Brown has endured two set backs in his career due to abscesses from concussion to the bottom of his feet, resulting in wall separtions.

Congratulation to Big Brown, Rick, Paul Pompa, and IEAH on your record and good luck with your Triple Crown quest.

This video shows the type of injury Big Brown had and the application of the shoes to Mr. Feelgood. He is trained by Jimmy Takter and is an open standardbred pacer at the Meadowlands.
