Glue on version of Yasha Shoe worn by Big Brown
Big Brown, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner and undefeated 3 year old thoroughbred is currently wearing a glue-on version of the Yasha shoe.
Rick Dutrow, trainer of Big Brown has decided to use this shoe to prevent future hoof problems. Big Brown has endured two set backs in his career due to abscesses from concussion to the bottom of his feet, resulting in wall separations.
Congratulation to Big Brown, Rick, Paul Pompa, and IEAH on your record and good luck with your Triple Crown quest.
This video shows the type of injury Big Brown had and the application of the shoes to Mr. Feelgood. He is trained by Jimmy Takter and is an open standard bred pacer at the Meadowlands.
Crushed/Collapsed Heels
Many horses throughout the equine industry struggle with
crushed heels. Some horses grow very little heel and/or they
wear them away as fast as new growth is regenerated. Others
don't have thick enough walls to support their own weight
when exposed to excessive Moisture. Lack of frog pressure
also contributes to the crushing of heels.
Once a hoof wall has colapsed, it is very difficult to re-establish
proper hoof growth.
This video will show how crushed heels can be re-built using
the new glues available and how new shoes can reduce the
concussion.
Part 2
Ian McKinlay demonstrates the quarter crack repair technique
his father developed back in the mid sixties. This video clip
shows the importance of proper heel support and the need for
the crack to be stablized for better healing.
Some horses are born with very thin walls which do not allow
them to be shod comfortably with nails in their natural hoof.
This video will show how hoof walls can be thickened artificially.
This horse raced very successfully in New York and New Jersey.
He was fitted with a nail on version of the Yasha shoe. There is
no voice added as of yet to explain the procedure. The drill being
used is a 1/4 inch in size. That will give you an idea how thin
his walls are.
This video shows how flexible the hoof capsule is when it is
allowed to be. What are the consequences when the hoof is
restricted by a shoe? Many studies are being researched on
that very question.
